The Wine Museum in Telavi gathers qvevri, tools, vessels and material explaining the Kakhetian method: how the grapes go into the vessel, what happens underground and why this way differs from the European one. Telavi is the centre of vineyard Kakheti, so the subject is opened up on local material. The visit is usually accompanied by an account.
The museum is on University street, in the central part of Telavi, close to the main sights. The Batonis Tsikhe fortress, the Nadikvari park and the viewpoint over the valley are nearby. Everything is within walking distance.
The museum is open daily from ten in the morning until six in the evening. Half an hour to an hour is enough. A phone number is listed, so a group visit is better arranged in advance.
Tips
- Call ahead if you are coming as a group
- Combine the visit with the Batonis Tsikhe fortress and the Nadikvari park
- Ask about the difference between the Kakhetian and Imeretian methods
How to get there
- About five minutes on foot from the centre of Telavi
