The Props Museum collects the things that usually stay backstage: stage properties, costumes and pieces of scenery. The collection is intimate and the objects are shown and explained in person, so a visit is closer to a guided tour than to walking the rooms alone. It shows what a stage picture is actually built from.
The museum is in Samgori, next to the metro station of the same name, on Mevele street. The district is residential and commercial at once, with a market, a transport hub and ordinary Tbilisi blocks around. The entrance is unassuming, so go by the house number and call if you cannot find it.
The museum is open from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon and is closed on Tuesday. Half an hour to an hour is enough. You can call before the trip and agree on a time, especially if you are coming specially.
Tips
- Call before setting off, small museums change their schedule
- Take the metro, parking around Samgori is difficult
- Ask whether photography is allowed, private collections set their own rules
How to get there
- A few minutes on foot from Samgori metro station to Mevele street
- About twenty minutes by car from the centre along Ketevan Tsamebuli avenue
