The Church of St Andrew is also called the Blue Monastery or Lurji Monasteri because of its blue domes and blue slabs on the roof.
The church was built at the end of the 12th century, during the reign of Queen Tamara, at the command of the former archbishop of Tbilisi, Basil.
The inscription, besides the builder, also mentions his brother, the famous political figure of Tamara time - Abulasan.
The building was badly damaged in the XVI or XVII centuries. At the same time it was extensively renovated.
In 1873 the church was restored: the damaged walls were rebuilt in brick and the dome, which had totally disfigured the monument, was added to it.
The walls of the church are painted with frescos depicting the saints of the Georgian church. As it befits many old churches and cathedrals in Georgia, it is ascetic and minimalistic from the outside, but very rich and well-maintained inside.
The original building has masonry walls with ornamented windows and large inscriptions. The ancient plan of the building has also been preserved.
The church grounds include a garden with a beautiful flower garden and many benches for resting.

ლურჯი მონასტერი — ძველი ქართული არქიტექტურის ძეგლი თბილისში, მტკვრის მარჯვენა ნაპირზე, ახლოს ვერის პარკთან, ლეო ქიაჩელის ქუჩის №25-ში მდებარეობს.
ამბობენ, რომ სოფელ ვერის მამათა მონასტერი VII საუკუნეში დაარსდა. ძველი ნაშთების მიხედვით, გაუქმებული მამათა მონასტერი, რომელსაც ადგილობრივები „ლურჯ მონასტერს“ უწოდებენ, ძალიან დიდ ტერიტორიაზე იყო გაშენებული, რაც ახლა ყორღანოვის ორი ქუჩით არის დაკეტილი.

I wanted to take my time exploring this place and really look at the frescoes. However, the pollen from the surrounding trees made it a bit uncomfortable, so we couldn't stay long. Nevertheless, from what I could see, it was truly beautiful.

Голубой монастырь, известный также как Лурджи, — одна из самых старых церквей в Тбилиси. Он был построен в XII веке, в 1180-х, при правлении царицы Тамары и посвящен святому Андрею.
