In the very center of the Georgian capital, you can see the ruins of the ancient Tbilisi fortress (XI-XIII centuries). The fortress wall with five towers about 110 meters long was discovered in the summer of 2012 during repair work on A.Pushkin Street, under the roadway.
At the initiative of the city authorities, it has become another attraction of Tbilisi. In order for the project to be implemented, more than 15 thousand citizens expressed their support for it. During the excavations, various objects of the Middle Ages (XI-XIII centuries) were also discovered.
After the archaeologists completed the restoration of the remains of the fortress wall, new paths were laid for pedestrians, bridges were made where it was required.
