The Wine Museum in Sighnaghi combines a small display with a tasting: it shows qvevri, tools, old bottles and vessels, and the account of the Kakhetian method runs alongside the glass. The format suits anyone who wants to understand the qvevri in a single visit without driving between estates. Wine can be taken home from here.
The museum is in the centre of Sighnaghi, a hilltop town above the Alazani valley known for its wall and the views of the Caucasus range. Around it are narrow streets, balconies and cafes, all within walking distance. From here it is easy to continue towards the wall and the viewpoints.
The museum is open daily from eleven in the morning until eleven at night. Allow about an hour for a visit with a tasting. A phone number and a social media page are listed, and in high season it is better to warn about a group.
Tips
- Warn ahead if you are coming as a group
- Combine the visit with a walk along the Sighnaghi wall
- Ask about the difference between the Kakhetian and Imeretian methods
How to get there
- A few minutes on foot from the central square of Sighnaghi
- Roughly two hours from Tbilisi via Sagarejo and Tsnori
