The house museum is devoted to Hamlet Gonashvili, the singer whose voice was called the voice of Georgia and who was for many years the soloist of the Rustavi ensemble. The house keeps the setting, the photographs, the recordings and the objects connected with his work. For anyone interested in Georgian polyphony this is one of the key stops on a Kakheti route.
The house stands in Anaga, the singer native village, in the Sighnaghi municipality. Around it are the vineyards of the Alazani valley, with the Caucasus range on the horizon. Sighnaghi is about half an hour away.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit in advance. Combine the trip with Sighnaghi, Bodbe and the wineries of the valley.
Tips
- Listen to the recordings before you go, the house reads differently then
- Combine the visit with Sighnaghi and the Bodbe monastery
- Ask about the Rustavi ensemble, a large subject of its own
How to get there
- North from Sighnaghi along the road, about half an hour by car
- Roughly an hour from Telavi via Gurjaani and Anaga
