The church of St George stands in Sighnaghi, a town on the Kakhetian hills. The church is temporarily closed at present, so plan a trip only once the doors are open again.

Sighnaghi is known for its fortress walls and views over the Alazani valley. The church lies close to the centre, away from the tourist streets.

Check the schedule by the phone number given before a visit. Even with the doors open, modest dress suits a service.

If you're after a tourist attraction, skip this place. The church is rundown and not open. However, if you like cemeteries, this one is unique. There are picnic tables scattered among the graves. You'll notice various types of crosses, and most graves have photos of the deceased, which adds a personal touch to the experience.

Saw the church while heading to the Signagi Wall, and it seemed quite historic.

After it rains, there's a lot of mud. It's difficult to get up, and I wouldn't suggest women go there alone or even in pairs. For some people, it's manageable to climb up, but not just after it rains.

I walked a long way from the town and passed by a graveyard. There really isn't much to see here. Don't waste your time; it's better to take a walk on the city wall instead.
