The house museum is devoted to Niko Nikoladze, a nineteenth century publicist, economist and public figure whose name is bound to the growth of the port of Poti and to the Georgian press of the time. The estate keeps the dwelling house, its setting, the library and material about his work. The display gives a sense both of the man and of how a well off Imereti family lived.
The estate stands in Didi Jikhaishi, a large village in the Samtredia municipality, on the plain of western Imereti. Around it are orchards, fields and the road between Samtredia and Kutaisi. The village is big, with a history and buildings of its own from the last century.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from half past ten in the morning until six in the evening, closed on Monday. Allow about an hour. The trip fits well into a Kutaisi, Samtredia and Poti route.
Tips
- Do not plan the visit for Monday, that is the closed day
- Allow an hour, the estate is larger than a usual village house museum
- Combine the trip with Poti, the fate of the port is tied to this name
How to get there
- West from Kutaisi through Samtredia, about forty minutes by car
- Kutaisi to Samtredia minibuses pass nearby, the rest is a few minutes on foot
