The homestead in Savane is the peasant yard where Akaki Tsereteli spent his first years, given by custom into the family of a wet nurse. The dwelling house, the farm buildings and the setting of a nineteenth century Imereti yard survive: the hearth, the utensils, the tools, the wine cellar. The place is bound to the custom of raising noble children in a peasant family, and that is its main theme.
The homestead stands in Savane, a village in the Sachkhere municipality, among the hills of upper Imereti. Around it are orchards, vineyards and the road along the Kvirila. Skhvitori, the Tsereteli family estate, is nearby and the two are usually seen together.
The yard is small and forty minutes is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time to come. Plan the trip together with Skhvitori and a wider Sachkhere route.
Tips
