The parish is dedicated to St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia. Her day, Ninoba, is kept twice a year, at the end of January and at the start of June, and both feasts draw many people to town parishes.
Akhali Samgori is a quarter on the edge of Rustavi, an industrial town on the Mtkvari below Tbilisi. The church of St. George of the same quarter stands about a kilometre away: two parishes for one district is an ordinary thing in a young town.
The parish is an urban one and keeps to a weekend schedule, which is worth allowing for: on weekdays the doors may be shut, though the church is visible from the street. The usual rules: modest dress, a headscarf for women, quiet inside. The road from the centre of Rustavi is short and paved, easy at any season.
