The church is dedicated to St. George and bears the name Akhali Samgori, that is new Samgori. So a quarter on the edge of Rustavi is called; the Samgori district of Tbilisi is another place and should not be confused with it.
Rustavi lies twenty five kilometres from Tbilisi, on the Mtkvari downstream of the capital. It is an industrial town that grew up in the last century, and the parishes here are young ones belonging to quarters: the St. Nino parish of the same Akhali Samgori stands about a kilometre away.
The place is in town and easy to reach at any season by paved road. The parish is in use and regularly attended: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet inside, and photography better agreed upon. The town centre is about five kilometres away, a drive of a few minutes.
💡 Tip
- A church of St. George named Akhali Samgori, new Samgori
- A quarter on the edge of Rustavi, not the Samgori district of Tbilisi
- The St. Nino parish of the same quarter a kilometre away
