🛣️ Where to eat on the Tbilisi-Kutaisi road: 8 convenient stops right next to the highway

If you are driving from Tbilisi to Kutaisi, it is better to decide on food stops in advance. The route is not the longest one, but it is more than enough to first postpone a stop and then start looking for something in a rush and on edge. It is much more convenient to know ahead of time where you can calmly grab a coffee, where you can take a proper break, and where you will not waste extra time leaving the highway.

The main route follows the East–West highway S1 / E60, and the Rikoti section remains a key part of the road between eastern and western Georgia. That is exactly why, in a guide like this, what matters is not beautiful city addresses on their own, but places that fit naturally into the rhythm of the road.

🚗 Who this ranking is for

  • For those driving from Tbilisi to Kutaisi.
  • For those who want to stop right by the highway instead of looking for food inside a city.
  • For families with children.
  • For those who like to know in advance where they will have a proper break on the road.
  • For those who do not want to waste time on extra detours and getting back onto the route.

🗺️ Where the stops are located on the Tbilisi—Kutaisi route: ranking map

On the highway, one bad stop can easily turn into 15–20 minutes lost: an unnecessary exit, a turn-around, and getting back into traffic. That is why it matters here not only what you want to eat, but also how calmly and quickly you can continue your journey after the break.

⏱️ How to plan a stop on the road more conveniently

If you are leaving early

If you are starting without a proper breakfast, it is better not to postpone the first break too far. On the way to Kutaisi, it is more convenient either to grab a quick bite in the first half of the route, or to keep one clear stop in mind for the middle of the journey right from the start. That makes the drive easier and calmer.

If you want to eat properly once

For one main stop, the middle part of the route is usually the best option. By then, there is already a feeling that half of the road is behind you, and you can take a proper pause without rushing. For a route of around 216–230 km, this is usually more convenient than making several random 5–10 minute snack stops.

If you do not want to sit for too long

Then it is better to choose a simple road format right away: coffee, pastries, something hot, takeaway food. On the road, this is often more convenient than trying to arrange a full lunch without really being in the mood for it, and then hurrying back to the car.

✅ What usually helps you avoid choosing the wrong stop

Do not wait until everyone is very hungry

On the highway, this is almost always a bad scenario. When a pause is not planned, the choice is made not for convenience, but out of urgency. And urgent road stops are usually the most inconvenient ones.

One proper break is better than several random ones

On a trip from Tbilisi to Kutaisi, this is especially noticeable. The route is not endless, and in most cases one calm stop works better than several small and chaotic ones. It is simply more convenient for both the driver and the passengers.

Keep water and something simple close at hand

Even if you are planning a stop in advance, a small запас of water and a simple snack in the car still helps. It is not about being overly cautious — it is just normal road comfort.

🛣️ How a good road stop differs from a random roadside point

A good stop on the road is usually obvious right away: it is easy to pull in, easy to get back onto the route, and the pause itself does not feel like a separate little trip. For a highway journey, that is what matters most. Food should support the road, not break its rhythm.

On the East–West highway S1 / E60, this is especially important because the road itself is the main transport corridor between the east and west of the country. When a stop fits naturally into that rhythm, the trip feels noticeably easier.

I was really glad that before our trip from Tbilisi to Kutaisi I came across this exact ranking on MADLOBA — it genuinely helped us on the road. This is not just a list of places, but really convenient stops right by the highway. We chose a place in advance from the first half of the route — Zgapari Rikoti. It turned out to be a great decision: we stopped quickly, ate calmly, and got back onto the route without any unnecessary fuss.
I also really liked that the ranking is divided by stages of the road — that makes planning much easier, especially when you are travelling with family.

❓Frequently asked questions about where to eat on the Tbilisi—Kutaisi road

❓How long does the drive from Tbilisi to Kutaisi usually take?

Usually around 3 to 4.5 hours, depending on traffic, driving pace, and stops. Different services usually show the road distance in the range of about 216–230 km.

❓Which part of the route is best for the main stop?

Most often, the most convenient option is the middle section of the route. That way, the pause feels well-timed and does not break the road into too many short stops.

❓If time is limited, is it better to eat at the beginning of the route or closer to the end?

If you left hungry, it is better not to delay and make an early short stop. If you ate properly before departure, it is usually more convenient to stop a little later and have one calm snack or lunch.

❓Is it worth checking the map in advance if you already have navigation?

Yes. Navigation guides you along the road, but it does not suggest the stop rhythm that is most comfortable for you. A pause chosen in advance usually really does save time and nerves.

❓Is this ranking suitable for the return trip too — from Kutaisi to Tbilisi?

Yes. The logic stays the same: you simply pass the same points in reverse order.

Ça me fait réfléchir, vraiment.
