The Ossetian House is an ethnographic museum arranged inside a traditional dwelling: the room interiors, the utensils, the textiles and the farm equipment. Live demonstrations are held here, meaning crafts and daily life are shown rather than only displayed behind glass. The collection counts as one of the notable ones in the area.
The house stands in the village of Borjnisi, in the mountainous part of the Java municipality, among the slopes of the Greater Caucasus. Around it are wooded ridges, pastures and villages scattered along the valley. The place is remote and the drive is part of the impression.
The museum is open daily from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon. Allow about an hour for the visit with an explanation. The place is remote and mountainous, so call ahead to check that the house is open.
Tips
- Call before travelling, mountain schedules shift in winter
