The museum is located in Variani village, Gori Municipality, among the museums of the region. Yakov Gogebashvili, a children's writer, educator and public figure, was born here in 1841 and devoted his life to developing the Georgian literary language and public education. The house museum bearing his name opened in 1958, and the village holds an annual "Yakoboba" festival in his honour.
The exhibition includes a rich collection of ethnographic items, tableware, furniture, documents, photographs and personal belongings, along with a recreated setting of his study. Central to the display are the first editions of the Georgian primer "Deda Ena" ("Mother Tongue"), Gogebashvili's foundational work that shaped Georgian school education.
According to reviews, the museum is especially popular with school groups on weekends: a single class visit can fill the entire space, so it's worth checking timing in advance to avoid missing out.
