The church of the apostles Peter and Paul stands in Takhtisdziri. The place is called both a church and a small monastery: both versions are in use and cannot yet be told apart with certainty, so it is worth coming without fixed expectations.
The toponym breaks into two parts: takhti is a throne, dziri a base or foot. It reads as the foot of the throne, and names of this kind in Kartli usually point to a distinctive landform beside which a settlement grew. The village lies north of Kareli, between Dirbi with its parish church and convent and Dvani at the very edge of the plain.
If this is an active community, monastic rules apply: covered clothing, quiet, photography by permission. In any case covered shoulders and knees are appropriate, and a headscarf is useful for women.
