The Tkupi basilica stands in Koshkebi village of Kareli Municipality. Tkupi means twin in Georgian, and the name is no accident: the second basilica, Satskali, stands some fifty steps away.
Koshkebi lies north of Kareli, in the hills above the Mtkvari valley. The two churches stand almost side by side, and it is the folk names that tell them apart.
Regular services may not be held, and the basilica can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and the old walls deserve careful treatment.
