The church of the Mother of God stands in Kornisi village in the north of Shida Kartli. Locally it is known simply as the church of the Virgin.
Kornisi lies in the valley of the Little Liakhvi, in the Caucasus foothills. The well-known Tigva monastery stands about a kilometre to the north.
