The church of Saint Nicholas stands in Grigalati village in Kharagauli Municipality, on the northern slope of the watershed between the Dzirula and Chkherimela rivers, about fifty kilometres from Kharagauli. The village is first mentioned in historical sources in 1628.
Sources place the church in the Middle Ages, the broad span from the 4th to the 18th century, and notes that the building has been restored.
The most interesting thing here came out of the restoration work itself. Clay vessels and metal objects dated to the 14th and 15th centuries were found during it, and those finds are now kept in the Georgian National Museum.
