The church of St. George stands in Eredvi village in the north of Shida Kartli. It is one of the well-known churches of the region, and its name appears in the church history of Kartli.
Eredvi lies east of Tskhinvali, in the Caucasus foothills, where the valleys run down towards the Great Liakhvi. The area has long been populated, and the villages here stand in a chain along the slopes.
