Breti Nunnery is an active convent: a monastic community lives here and the day follows the services rather than the arrival of guests. The grounds are well kept, with a garden and outbuildings, as is usual in Georgian convents.
The village of Breti lies north-east of Kareli, where the road leaves the highway towards the Shida Kartli foothills. This is one of the most visited sanctuaries in the municipality, and people come for the convent itself rather than in passing. In neighbouring Dirbi, a few kilometres away, another convent is active, that of the Dormition, so the two combine well in a single trip.
The usual rules apply: women need a headscarf and a long skirt, men covered shoulders and knees. Speak quietly, and do not photograph inside the church without the sisters permission. The grounds open in the morning and close in the evening, though at a convent this is always approximate.
