On a rise above the northeastern edge of Poka stands a memorial cross of St Nino. The spot marks the tradition of the saint’s route through Javakheti and is also referred to as a St Nino monastery, though the hill itself carries the cross.
It opens a wide view over Lake Paravani, the largest lake in Georgia, and the villages scattered across the plateau. The place is open and windy, with hardly any trees around.
The climb is short and easy, though closed shoes are the better choice. The wind on the crest is strong even in summer, so a warm jacket helps.
