  • Description

In the heart of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, above its age-old secrets, rises the Sami (Samni) Fortress - a wonderful medieval monument that, like a guard, sleeps over the village of Rveli in the Borjomi municipality. Here, on a high ridge where the Baniskhevi and Mtkvari rivers merge, a majestic history is revealed.

This fortress, like a jewel, controls the expanses of Baniskhevi and the Mtkvari gorge, like a guard looking down on the expanses from a high guard. Its architecture exudes refined medievalism: a rectangular plan, corner imposts, architrave entrances - all built with selectively selected cobblestones.

From the courtyard you can enter the round impost, bypassing only the northern castle. The architrave entrance to the northern impost is decorated with wooden pillars, creating a mysterious atmosphere. And now, in the southwestern impost, at the foot of the wall, a ceramic pipe with a diameter of 7 cm mysteriously protrudes - like a message from past centuries.

The Sami Fortress is not just a building. This is a work embodied in a natural protected location, in a strategic position that emphasizes its historical significance.

How to get to this historical sanctuary:

The village of Rveli, in which the Sami Fortress is comfortably nestled, awaits its guests in the municipality of Borjomi, on the right bank of the Mtkvari River, just 7 km from the city of Borjomi. A paved road awaits you leading to the village, and from there there is only a 1 km pedestrian path to the gates of this mysterious historical past.

A journey to the Sami Fortress is an immersion into the world of the Middle Ages, an encounter with the mystery of the past, revealing the great history of Georgia. We invite you to become part of this story, feel the breath of antiquity and enjoy the splendor of age-old stones that tell their own unique legend.
