A parish church of Saint Nicholas. The dedication suits the province: Saint Nicholas watches over travellers, and Samegrelo is a crossroads of routes to the coast and into the Svan mountains.
Rukhi is known not for a church but for a fortress: the heavy walls on the plain north of Zugdidi are visible straight from the Jvari road, and the village enters Samegrelo itineraries because of them. The church stands in the same village, right by the highway, and shares none of that fame. The temptation to tie it to the fortress is strong, but the age of the church is not established and proximity proves nothing.
The parish is active and services follow the church year. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The fortress and the church are easy to see in one visit, a few minutes apart.
