The church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour stands in Ieli, a Svan village five kilometres from Mestia. The shrine also has the Svan name matskhvar, that is Saviour.
Ieli is a rare case where four churches stand in one village: two hundred metres away is the St. George church, three hundred metres the church of St. John the Baptist, and four hundred the church of St. John the Evangelist. The Marian church of Ats under the Lamaria name stands a kilometre off.
