The house museum is devoted to Giorgi Akhvlediani, a linguist whose work on phonetics and the Caucasian languages became part of the foundation of Georgian linguistics. The house keeps the setting, the books, the manuscripts and material about his scholarship. The collection is rural in scale and academic in substance, which is rare in a mountain region.
The house stands in the mountain part of Racha-Lechkhumi, on the slopes above the Rioni valley. Around it are forest, orchards and local roads linking villages scattered across the hillsides. Tsageri and Ambrolauri are the nearest landmarks.
The museum is open daily from ten in the morning until six in the evening. Half an hour is enough. Come in the warm season, roads here are harder in winter.
Tips
- Come in the warm season, mountain roads are harder in winter
