The parish is dedicated to St. Nino. In the mountain villages of Racha her name is met less often than that of St. George, and such parishes were usually founded later, when a village grew and one church was no longer enough.
Shkmeri lies high above Oni, where the forest gives way to alpine meadows. The another parish of the village, known by the names of St. Elisha and the prophet Elijah, stands about six hundred metres away. There are no other neighbours nearby: the church of Zhashkva is almost seven kilometres off, Oni ten.
The village is a high mountain one, snow closes the road in winter, and in summer walking routes come up here. The parish is a village one and services are not held every day. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside, move nothing. In summer Shkmeri becomes a stop on walking routes, while in winter few people come up.
