Mechvreti is the name of a monastery of which only ruins remain. What stands behind the word itself no one explains: in Racha such names more often come from the tract where a house was set than from a dedication.
The place lies by the village of Likheti, away from the main Rioni valley. There are no neighbours nearby at all: the closest shrine, the church of St. George at Sori, stands almost seven kilometres off, while Ambrolauri is about thirteen kilometres away and Oni eighteen. The gorge here is remote and little peopled.
What there is to see is the masonry and the plan rather than vaults. Ruins ask for care: the stones are not moved, the foundation is not stepped on, nothing is taken away. The climb is over grass; in spring the path is damp, in summer closed shoes are better. Racha is a land of narrow roads, and extra time never hurts.
