The church is dedicated to the Archangel, Mtavarangelozi in Georgian. In Lechkhumi this is among the commonest dedications after that of St. George: the archangel is venerated here as guardian of roads and boundaries, and the mountain villages lived by the paths across the ridges.
Chkumi lies nine kilometres from Tsageri, in the Lechkhumi mountains. The Trinity church of Kulbaki stands only seven hundred and forty metres away, the ruins of the Namarnevi hermitage two and a half kilometres, the church near Larchvali four.
Two shrines seven hundred metres apart are easy to confuse, so follow the coordinates. The road is a mountain one and the unpaved stretches soften in the rain, so dry days are better. Dress modestly, keep quiet inside, leave offerings untouched. Tsageri is nine kilometres away, about half an hour by road.
