The chapel of Surb Karapet stands in Khachkoi village in Tsalka Municipality. The Armenian community built the chapel on the ruins of an older Georgian church, and the stones of the earlier building went into the walls.
It is a hall like building with an apse on the east. The entrance is on the south and windows are cut in the east, south and west walls. A stone from a column of the old Georgian church lies above the west window, and it is the clearest mark of continuity: part of the earlier building keeps working in the new one.
Traces of another structure are visible south of the chapel. Sources assign the building to the late Middle Ages. Surb Karapet is the Armenian name of John the Baptist, one of the most widespread dedications in the Armenian tradition.
