The Virgin Mary church stands in Navtiani. The name of the village comes from the word navti, oil, and points to the oil bearing outcrops known in this part of Kvemo Kartli.
The ruins of the Saint George church of Dumanisi lie about three kilometres away. The area covers the transition from the hills of the Tetritskaro district to the mountainous part of Dmanisi. The roads here run along the ridges and open views over several valleys at once.
Modest clothing is expected, with shoulders and knees covered. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
