Kvetera is the best known church of this area. The small building stands on a rise above Naduknari, away from the valley, and is visible from afar thanks to the distinctive colour of its roof: this is one of those places in Kakheti people come to on purpose rather than in passing.
The place belongs among the recognisable monuments of the region and differs markedly from the village parish churches around: people climb here for the church itself and for the view from the hill. Naduknari lies west of Akhmeta, and further north the climb begins towards the Pankisi valley and the Tusheti passes.
The place is popular, so a weekday morning is better for a quiet look around. The approach is on foot, so comfortable shoes help. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women.
