  • Description

Khornabuji is a majestic medieval fortress city that stands in eastern Georgia, just a crater from Dedoplistskaro, in the heart of the Kakheti region. Rising 800 meters above sea level, this fortress, also known as the "Fortress of Tamara", is a breathtaking historical monument.

The history of Khornabuja can be traced back to the 4th century, when it was annexed to the kingdom of Bakuru, and is especially emphasized in the 5th century, when King Vakhtang I Gorgasali established the first episcopal council here. This fortress, which has survived centuries and eras, has witnessed changing reigns and events, from the period of the Persian Empire to the liberation in the second half of the 6th century.

Since the 8th century, Khornabuji became the key center of Saeristo, and during the creation of the Kingdom of Hereti - one of its most important cities. In the 13th century, the city survived a Mongol raid, but its glorious history did not stop. In the 17th century, George Saakadze restored the city, freeing it from Persian rule.

Today Khornabuji attracts visitors with its historical significance and majestic architecture. Here you can feel the breath of the past as you walk through the protected areas of Vashlovani, enjoying the views from a height of 800 meters and immersing yourself in the rich history of Georgia.

Khornabuji is not just stone walls, it is a place where history comes to life to tell its amazing story to those who are willing to listen. We invite all connoisseurs of culture and history to visit this magical fortified city to see with their own eyes the greatness of the past, going back centuries.
