A church of the prophet Elijah built of timber. This is the second wooden church in this part of the list after the Saint George church in the cemetery near Speti, and once again a rarity: churches in Georgia are almost always of stone, while wooden ones occur mainly in wooded mountain districts.
The dedication to Elijah in Georgia is bound up with mountains and weather: he is venerated as master of thunder and rain. The church is known by Gormaghali yet stands in the village of Kvakude, on the lowland belt of western Imereti closer to Samtredia. The century of building is not established.
The parish is rural and services follow the church year. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. Treat the timber structure with care: do not lean on the walls or touch the carving.
