The church of St. George stands in Mtskhetisi near Vakevisa village of Chiatura Municipality. Mtskhetisi is the name of the local area and has nothing to do with Mtskheta, the old capital.
The area is hilly, with villages scattered along the valleys north of Chiatura. Zekvetsa with its church and naeklesiari lies to the south, and Chiatura itself is known for its manganese mines.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.
