The word keda means a ridge or crest in Georgian, and in the name of this church it points to its position: the church of St. George stands on a rise above the village. The village name speaks too: tsikhe means fortress.
Such toponyms usually remember a stronghold that vanished long ago, and Kveda Tsikhesulori is no exception. The climb to the church is short, but the view opens over the whole surrounding plain of Vani Municipality. Placing churches of St. George on high ground is a firm Georgian habit.
The climb starts from the lower village street, and closed shoes are the better choice. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf. Giorgoba, the day of St. George, is kept twice a year, and the village is busier then.
