  • Description

On the eastern outskirts of the secluded village of Zemo Dimi, rises the “Throat of the Castle” - the Dimi fortress. Preserving its ancient ruins, this architectural gem is steeped in history and majesty. Built on a high mountain of roughly polished limestone blocks, the Dimi Fortress is a magnet for history buffs and medieval aficionados.

In the very heart of the fortress, the ruins of a quadrangular tower rise, giving visitors a sense of time transitions and distant eras. This historical barn belongs to the medieval period and its connection with the first king Pharnavaz gives it special significance.

Dimi, which Vakhushti Bagrationi speaks of, is located on the slope of Persati, framed by the eastern waters of the Khani and the southern flow of the Kvirili River. The town itself, in which Dimi experienced his past, worships grandeur and antiquity.

Exploring the fortress reveals the secrets of the Hellenistic period through the discovery of fragments of pottery, amphoras, bronze foil, and much more. On the eastern slope of the fortress, not only historical evidence was found, but also a treasure of Colchis axes of the 14th-13th centuries, which complements the Dimi treasury.

Visitors to this unique place can walk along the paths of time, admiring the stone evidence of the past. For those who want to plunge into history and feel the spirit of the Middle Ages, the Dimi fortress will become a fascinating guide to distant eras filled with mysteries and majesty.
