Supsa is known far beyond Guria, though for a reason that has nothing to do with churches: this is where the pipeline running from the Caspian to the Black Sea ends, and a marine terminal operates.
The church of St. George stands in the village itself, away from the terminal, and the contrast between industrial infrastructure and a rural church is especially vivid here. The coastal part of Guria is arranged like this throughout: a narrow strip between the sea and marshy plain, where villages stretch along the road and churches are placed on the rare dry patches.
No dating has become attached to the building. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf. The coastal road is level and passable in any weather.
