The Gantiadi temple in Tsandripsh is an old religious sight of a seaside settlement by the very border of Abkhazia. The place is known as a historical monument, and people come here above all for the feeling of age, for walls that have outlived more than one era of this shore.
Tsandripsh is altogether a landmark for lovers of early Christian architecture: one of the oldest basilicas of the region stands here, and the old temple fits organically into this historical landscape. The sea is a few minutes’ walk away, so the visit combines easily with a beach day.
The monument is seen outside and inside freely, at any time: there are no regular services here. The old walls need care: no climbing on the masonry and no inscriptions left behind.
