The ancient Christian church by the Miusera road is a quiet architectural monument of the Gudauta district, hidden in the greenery of the seaside hills. The building is attributed to the tenth century, and the age reads at once: rough stone masonry, simple volumes and no trace of later cosmetics.
Around it lie the green hills of the Miusera upland, and a few kilometres to the west is the coast with its quiet coves. The church fits neatly into a route between Gudauta and Pitsunda: a short turn off the coastal highway, and you are alone with thousand-year-old walls amid subtropical greenery.
The place is seen in the open air: there are no regular services here, and one can walk up at any time. The old masonry asks for care: no climbing on the walls, no shifting of stones, and litter is taken away.
