Bagrati and the Rioni River
Bagrati Cathedral can be seen from almost anywhere in Kutaisi, standing on Ukimerioni hill above the old town. It was built in the early 11th century under King Bagrat III, destroyed at the end of the 17th century and stood without its dome for more than three hundred years, until it was restored under green copper roofs in 2012. The gallery shows the cathedral from the air at sunset, behind the fortress wall, next to the remains of its belfry and on a clear summer day. Below it runs the fast Rioni: houses on the steep bank, rapids under a bridge and a hotel with turquoise balconies above the water. One frame is devoted to the monument to Boris Gaponov by the synagogue.
