The Giorgi Rostomashvili House Museum keeps the setting of the house and the objects tied to the name of its owner: furniture, photographs, documents and everyday things. Mountain house museums are also interesting for the domestic side: they show how people lived here through long winters and difficult roads. Everything is shown in person.
The house stands on Gogebashvili street in Pasanauri, a village on the Georgian Military Road at the meeting of the White and Black Aragvi. Around it are mountains, forest and the river, and the village itself is a traditional stop on the way to Gudauri and Kazbegi. Tbilisi is under two hours away.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. A phone number is listed, so the visit is worth arranging in advance. The trip fits easily into a Georgian Military Road route.
Tips
- Call ahead, mountain schedules depend on the season
- Combine the visit with a stop at the meeting of the White and Black Aragvi
- Allow time for the drive, the stretch can be busy in winter
How to get there
- From Tbilisi along the Georgian Military Road via Mtskheta and Ananuri, about two hours
- Minibuses towards Kazbegi pass through Pasanauri and stop in the village centre
