The Gega Chiakokoni House Museum keeps the setting of a village house and the things gathered within the family: dishes, tools, textiles, photographs and documents. Collections like this tell the story of a Guria village without selection or gloss, showing what actually survived. The format is intimate, suited to small groups.
The house stands in Melekeduri, a village in the Ozurgeti municipality, in the foothills north of Ozurgeti. Around it are wooded slopes, orchards and the roads running towards Chokhatauri. The village is small and quiet.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit through the village in advance. Combine the trip with a wider Guria route.
Tips
- Check the way in the village, navigation is imprecise here
- Combine the visit with Shemokmedi and the other village museums of the district
- Come in dry weather, the foothill roads are harder after rain
How to get there
- North from Ozurgeti along the local road, about twenty minutes by car
- Roughly an hour and a quarter from Batumi via Kobuleti and Ozurgeti
