A real treasure has been discovered in the mountainous Georgian region
In the north-west of Georgia, in a historical area bordering Russia, a rare coin of the Roman emperor was discovered, made in 15 BC. According to experts, Svaneti, where excavations were carried out, throughout its history led an active political life and maintained economic and cultural ties with the outside world.
After studying, the archaeologists found out the place of the coinage of the denarius. The coin was made on the territory of the modern French city of Lyon. In the 15th century, the Lugdunum Mint, owned by Octavian Augustus, was located in this place.
The found artifact can be observed in the Museum of History and Ethnography of Svaneti in the numismatic hall. Researcher of the institution M. Pataridze, in honor of the significant find, gave a lecture for museum visitors on the interaction of the region and the outside world during the Roman Empire.
