A solemn ceremony of handing over keys to citizens was held in Gori
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Health, since 2013, almost 23,000 refugee families from Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region have crossed the threshold of a new home, thanks to various government programs to support internally displaced persons.
This year, the government plans to transfer about three thousand apartments. Almost seven dozen families have already received a roof on the anniversary of the Russian-Georgian war. The keys were handed over to the new residents personally by the Governor of Shida Kartli, the Minister of Health and the head of the Resettled Persons Agency.
The State has developed a full-fledged program to assist in solving housing issues for persons belonging to the announced category. Material support includes: payment for rented living space, gratuitous transfer of renovated apartments, construction of blocks, financing the purchase of a private house in the settlement.
However, despite all the efforts on the part of the local authorities, numerous families continue to stand in line for housing for more than one year. Today, almost 300 thousand people have the status of "internally displaced persons".
Those wishing to receive state aid must submit an application, upon consideration of which the commission will make a decision on each candidate.
