The development of wind energy in Georgia continues to gain momentum. The Kartli wind farm, located near the city of Gori in the east of the country, has been successfully operating since 2016, providing a capacity of 20 MW. This plant has become the main catalyst for the integration of alternative energy sources into the Georgian energy system.

According to the latest data, the Kartli wind power plant, the only one in Georgia, has demonstrated an impressive increase in electricity generation. In the first half of 2023, it produced 42.74 million kWh, which is 7.7% higher than in January-June 2022. This information is provided on the website of the Georgian Electricity Market Operator (ESCO).

The capacity of the wind farm is 20 MW, and it occupies an important place in the country's energy system. Nevertheless, the share of its production is only 0.6% of the total volume. This demonstrates the importance of further development of alternative energy sources to ensure a sustainable energy future of Georgia.

Georgia is actively following the global trend of switching to alternative energy sources. This transition is an important strategy for the Government of the country, and it places great hopes on the integration of solar and wind energy. The increasing demand for electricity from year to year creates the need for additional capacities, and experts suggest that by 2030 Georgia may expect an energy deficit.

The Government has developed a support scheme for the development of renewable energy in the country. It includes assistance in the construction of power plants with a total capacity of 1.5 thousand megawatts over the next three years through auctions. This step is aimed at stimulating investment in the industry.

Summing up, Georgia sets ambitious goals for the development of renewable energy, ensuring a sustainable energy future. The state support system and innovative approaches create a favorable platform for the growth of the industry. It is important that these efforts allow Georgia not only to meet energy needs, but also to become an active participant in the world's aspirations for sustainable development.
