Azerbaijan and Serbia sign gas supply agreement
The strategic agreement opens up new prospects in the gas industry and confirms Azerbaijan's role as a reliable energy supplier in the region
Today, an important step towards the diversification of the European gas market was made when Azerbaijan and Serbia signed an agreement on gas supplies. Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic met to sign strategically important documents formalizing future cooperation in the field of natural gas.
According to the signed document, the annual volume of gas supplies will amount to about 400 million cubic meters, which is noted as an important step in the establishment of Serbia as a new key partner of Azerbaijan in the diversification of the European gas market.
Minister Parviz Shahbazov expressed confidence that this agreement will strengthen Azerbaijan's role in ensuring the energy security of the region.
Earlier this year, work began on the construction of a gas interconnector between Serbia and Bulgaria. This project, the cost of which is estimated at 85.5 million euros, will provide an opportunity to pump up to 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year and make Azerbaijani gas available to Serbian consumers.
The total length of the pipeline will be 170 kilometers, of which 109 kilometers will pass through the territory of Serbia. The Bulgaria-Serbia interconnector project confirms the desire of both countries for a sustainable and diverse source of energy, as well as to strengthen friendly relations in the field of energy.
This agreement is a key moment in the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia and underlines their commitment to ensuring energy security and sustainability in the region.
