Container collection is being introduced in Georgian seaports

In Georgia, it is planned to introduce fees for containers in seaports. This new fee will go to the municipality's budget. According to Channel One, a container fee can be introduced for persons who own or use containers processed at a seaport in the country.

Amendments related to container collection were presented at a meeting of the parliamentary Bureau on December 11. The bill stipulates that the amount of this fee should not exceed GEL 30, and the entire amount will be sent to the budget of the municipality.

Interesting fact. In recent years, Georgia's seaports have become increasingly used for conducting the country's foreign trade. The volume of cargo transported has increased significantly, which gave rise to the development of new measures to improve the control and financial component of this sector.

According to the new amendments, the container fee will not apply to containers for which transportation occurred before February 1, 2024, and which will be delivered to the customs territory of Georgia by sea no later than April 30, 2024.

The initiators of these amendments are members of the parliamentary majority - Georgy Khakhubia, Archil Talakvadze, Georgy Chakvetadze, Irakli Chikovani, Ketevan Charkviani, Salome Kurasbediani, Edisher Toloraya, Irakli Kirtskhaliya and Gocha Enukidze.

This new container fee aims to regulate and control the use of seaports, as well as provide financial support to the municipality. The introduction of this fee will allow for more efficient management of cargo flows and expand trade development opportunities in Georgia.
