The church of St Nino stands in Mestia. St Nino, the enlightener of Georgia, is venerated across the country, and churches of her name are many here, from town ones to the smallest village chapels.
This is another church within the town: about seven hundred metres to Pusdi and roughly a kilometre to the church of the Saviour. Mestia lives on mountain tourism, people set out from here for Ushguli and Tetnuldi, and the Svaneti museum of history and ethnography stands in the town itself.
The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. Mestia is crowded in summer, and it is calmer to come in the morning, before the town scatters along its routes.
