The church dedicated to David the Builder stands in Marneuli. David the Builder, a king of the twelfth century, is venerated as a saint in Georgia, and churches of his name are usually raised in towns.
Among the urban shrines of Marneuli this is the only Orthodox church: the two other shrines of the town are mosques, of Imam Ali and Imam Hussein. Such a make-up shows the town well, where Azerbaijani, Armenian and Georgian families live side by side.
There are no regular services, and visits are arranged on the spot. The usual etiquette applies: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside.
