The community of St Nicholas stands in Lagodekhi itself, a few hundred metres from the centre. It is called in different ways, a monastery and simply the church of St Nicholas, and both names are current in the town.
This is the only urban holy place of the Kakheti part of the district: the other four churches are scattered across the villages of the municipality. Lagodekhi is known for its reserve, where the trails to waterfalls and alpine lakes begin, and the community stands away from the tourist flow.
On the spot it is worth remembering that a monastery keeps its own order. The usual etiquette applies: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and no photography inside without asking.
